Let's Get to the Root of the Solution!!
Therapy should be fun. It should invigorate you and let you feel happier while leaving than you did coming in. It should be something you look forward to, not something you push yourself to get through. My goal is for you to leave the sessions feeling lighter, more energized, and more enthusiastic about your future. My goal is to enthrive; and to help you do the same for yourself. Counseling is not an event or an appointment, but rather a skills session for your brain, to help it develop new methods of looking at the world and relating to it and other people.

A lot of counselors want to work on past history, childhood trauma and "roots" of issues. I believe that this method is sometimes helpful, but always takes a lot of time. That time can be used right now to make changes to your life.
I have worked with hundreds of clients to address a wide range of issues, including Depression, Anxiety and Worry, Alcohol and Drug Use, and Adoption Issues.
At Enthrive North the goal is to help you figure out what is not working for you in your life and to help you make changes so you can start moving forward again.
My belief is that therapy is a personal fit. That's why I offer a free initial consult and trial session that will help you determine if I am the right counselor for your needs. Contact me to schedule your appointment.
By re-engaging our brain's neuroplasticity, it's ability to build new pathways, we provide greater, more long-term change than simple behavioral modification programs. Also by training our brain to understand the world according to a preferred interpretation, we utilize it's natural predictive nature to increase the speed and extent of the cognitive change.

The Decision
Starting counseling can be very difficult. One thing I see as similar among many counselors is a belief that counseling starts during the first session. I believe a person starts to change even before the decision is made to see a counselor.
The process of fighting back against depression, against chronic worry, against angry relationships and even against your own inability to accomplish tasks is the first step in making real change. Even the seemingly simple process of reading this site can be the action needed to begin significant growth.
Now that you have started changing, it is time to find the right therapy for you.
My method of therapy can best be demonstrated by coming in for a free 30 minute consultation, but I'll try to describe it here a bit too.
Narrative Therapy is structured to perform several very important processes. The first is to properly name and identify the problem. It's a problem if it is a problem. After this I work to help find what a person's preferred way of living has been and will be in the future and then help them explore how the problem is keeping them from achieving these goals. Remember the process of therapy will not return you to your pre-problem state of living; it will help you use the skills you already have and will develop in beating the problem to help you move towards who you want to be. You will come out better and stronger than before.

Many people have done some sort of therapy or counseling before, but for others it is a new experience and may seem intimidating. The blog posts below let you know what to expect during your first few sessions and throughout the process.
When I made the decision to become a counselor I was 16 years old. Now, after another eight years of schooling, five internships, hundreds of hours of classes and thousands of hours of face-to-face time with real people, I realize that being a "counselor" doesn't really say much about what you do.
I specialize in Substance Misuse (Alcohol and Drug problems), Anxiety, Mood Disorders and issues of Adoption. I really see these as areas where I have experience implementing what I really specialize in: facilitating change in cognitive and emotional responses to the world around us, so that one can change their behavior and fulfillment in life.
I do this through a structured method wrapped in an unstructured format. My theoretical orientation is based on Narrative Therapy, modified to include emerging Neuroscience findings about brain change and Neuroplasticity.

Below you can find several sections of my thoughts and writings on several areas of specialization.
